Demons

by ben thompson   Sep 2, 2007

Scared and alone shadows lurk about with hungry eyes.
At least in his mind, his blanket a makeshift disguise.

He squeezes his teddy as they gather courage to peek.
At the sight of me my six year old son begins to speak.

Teddy is my friend and protector, he looks out for me.
He chases away mean old goblins, so they'll let me be.

We wish away nightmares, only good thoughts fill their place.
I kiss my son on his head a beautiful smile fills his face.

Settling into dreamland a child's ignorance is pure bliss.
As a father I know all to well demons really do exist.

You are very lucky to have a little boy. he will bring the innocence back into your life, and teach you to look at the little things and how beautiful they are.

a childs gift is just by being. take that for granted.

    Ben
what a wonderful piece you have penned. Brings back so may memories of when you were small. I remember how Carmel protected you through the night. Then as you became a man your loyal teddy moved on to be protector for your little girl. Now you are the Daddy that makes everything OK in 3 little childrens worlds. Keeping them safe for now. You are their hero....and you may not know this you are also mine. I love you Mom
