Finding Freedom's Wings

by Meena Krish   Jan 25, 2010

Listen to you
fluttering heart,
don't lock yourself in a cage
that seals your mouth,
release from captivity and
fly finding freedom's wings.

Summon your courage
little mouse,
come into the open
to roar out thoughts
which hide in darkness.

I see flames of strength,
that grows like a mighty tree
finding freedom's wings
amongst a society that blames,
Arise, for fear is not your name

In you I see confidence
yet, when confrontation
crosses your path
your voice flees
like a doe.

Slave of silence,
let your voice unfold
finding freedom's wings,
release the voice within
for fear will not be your name.

^^ I think you are saying be confident dont get tongue-tied with fear; dont let nervousness get the better of you.. A very good start!

    Summon your courage
    little mouse,
    come into the open
    to roar out thoughts
    which hide in darkness.

^^ loved the use of a 'mouse' they are both vulnerable and fearless it would seem, but their vulnerability makes them hide in darkness in order to survive. 'to roar out thoughts which hide in darkness' - I loved this bit! Everyone should be heard, no matter if they are great or small - their voices shouldn't be outshone by those more powerful because their ideas/opinions are just as important..

    I see flames of strength,
that grows like a mighty tree
    finding freedom's wings
    amongst a society that blames,
Arise, for fear is not your name

^^'arise, for fear is not your name' - a very powerful and inspirational line! 'amongst a society that blames' - people tend to point the finger in order to remove the spotlight from themselves.. They also tends to be cruel and offer criticism in order to raise their own self-esteem - a sad fact of life that those with pure hearts are dwindling in numbers...

    In you I see confidence
    yet, when confrontation
    crosses your path
    your voice flees
    like a doe.

^^ I can directly relate to this!
In the arms of society we cringe and lose our voice because we are inferior to those who hold all the power - out voice is only shadowed and lost/ drowned out by the more powerful..

    Slave of silence,
    let your voice unfold
    finding freedom's wings,
    release the voice within
for fear will not be your name.

^^a powerful ending!! 'slave of silence' - I never thought of it like that but t does ring true.. If only we all found 'freedom's wings'...

Overall, I love the message you have scribed here! It is a powerful message that I hope many will hear. I also love the metaphors throughout the piece - such great use of them! This piece really flowed well. I would offer editing critique if I could - it's already flawless!

A very powerful poem that spoke words of wisdom , & definatly made the reader feel your optimism. It makes the reader want to be more courageous & strive towards freedom, speak their voice for the world to hear & know that they have no reason to be scared . Brilliant. I couldnt have loved this more.

Lovely, Meena..I loved the metaphores in this sweet gem...If only we could see the giant that is locked inside our tiny mouse body, eh?

We all have great potential and when we overcome our fears, it is unleashed.

    Great poem, love your work:)

    God bless,

Finding freedom and having the courage to pursue that freedom. Well done.
