...between us...

by Meena Krish   Feb 27, 2023

The river between us
stretches far and wide,
but hearts hold each other
with fingers entwined,

Shimmering tears
flow...one end to the other
taste of separation lingers
with hearts confined..

I really felt this poem so deep it's actually difficult to describe, the language is simple and unencumbered and it almost sung to me. Wonderfully penned. Regards Ink

So much intimacy in these lines, and it makes me think of the endurance of love, even when there is distance. Whether physical distance or emotional distance, or even circumstances in life that are tiring and challenge you. I think there can be sadness in how I read this, but also "taste of separation", making you realize the support you have for each other even when times get hard. There is more than words can measure between you two. Happy to see a new piece from you!

    Hello Meena,

I don't know if it is the mood that I am in, but I felt these words. The imagery of being away from that that makes you whole, that anguish of separation. The river is deep and wide, it allows one to see where and what you need, but the gulf is just impassable. This poem truly resonated with me: my son is miles away and although I see him on a screen, I cannot gather him close to me. Literally, the separation hurts.

    Nice work.
