In Whisps Of Clouds

by CJ Maleney   Aug 7, 2017

I stand there on the doorstep watching the light gradually vanish as the sun takes a final bow to the west dipping behind the mountains.

My toxic smoke rises away on currents, it thins out into nothingness, It's damage done it fades away to nothing.

My choice!

Grey clouds drifting eastward.
Between those and myself, clouds are tinged with pink and red.

It is very pretty, better people than I would describe it better.

Yet!

"Very pretty"

Seems pretty perfect.

The little birds come out to play in this twilight.
I cannot see their form fully, yet I know they are swifts from the shape of their tails.

They twist and turn in the air so fast. They change direction in a split second.

It's amazing!

Only one bird I know is faster and that is only in a diving hunt, and the periguin hunts elsewhere tonight.

So I watch their numbers grow, from one.

More join and at my last count there were thirteen.

They duck and dive, they swoop, and they sweep the sky, it is so impressive to watch.

They play the game of love.
Each Seeking their mate. A life mate, a forever mate.

Then as darkness really starts to come they seek the leaves.

Thirteen diminish to one. Each finding it's match and retreating to the safety of the trees.

I watch 13.

It flutters away from what is left of the suns light.
I think of loneliness, as it's tiny wings beat a slow curling current of air.

From nowhere a little figure appears, wings creating tiny storms in their wake. Urgent and frenzied...

Catching up, second by second, the beat of a wing, heart and life.

Await your love I think, but my thoughts are irrelevant.

Alongside it slows, they dance a little while, never touching and I cannot hear their chirps at this point.

They take one last twist and turn before diving behind the tall trees.

Smiling I close the door,

Nonsense - you have described this with a pure honesty that is genuine and so it is as good as it can possibly be.

    Well done, Craig,
