Joan

You were almost four
when I came into this world.
I can imagine
what you thought of me...
-
We grew up sharing
a common thing,
we were sisters...
-
For as long as I can remember
we shared so many things.
I know at times
you resented my intrusion
into your life...
-
You've been so special
to me.
All the secrets you would share,
all the dreams you told.
I knew you wouldn't have
trusted them
with just anyone....
-
There were times
when things were bad,
you grew up and away.
I felt so lonely,
I thought I had lost my sister.
But eventually I grew up
and realized you had a life too...
-
Our growing up wasn't easy at times
but my memories of you are fond.
If anyone would want
the perfect sister
they would have to pick you...

I wrote this for my sister in 1982, I was nineteen at the time. It was recently unearthed. There is no one else I would want for a sister than her.

Oh that is so sweet Brenda to have and love a sister like that. Me and my sister were not close and she passed away a few years ago. I am happy for you
