Inner Sanctum.

by Steven Beesley   May 29, 2012

Inner thoughts collides and shatter
into kaleidoscopic shards
that pierce into
my heart.

My visions clouded over
and taken hostage by
demons that continue
to torment me.

The sadness hastens, it
grows and continues
to lay dormant
within.

As I read the words that
are your immortality,
only fragments of a
friend remain who was
once so dear.

Silence one more greets
me, to take me under it's
wings for yet another
cold journey.

Solitude cannot be kept
at bay, it confronts and
surrounds me completely.
A captive I remain.

^^ the imagery here is so clear!! I can already sense the pain of the piece. A captivating start!

    My visions clouded over
    and taken hostage by
    demons that continue
    to torment me.

^^ personal demons are by far more cruel than those that attack us from afar. And they do indeed take us 'hostage' and 'torment' us. Its also harder to escape them, because they are fueled by our selves.

    The sadness hastens, it
    grows and continues
    to lay dormant
    within.

^^this sounds amazing but at the same time conflicting - I think perhaps because it is rare/unlikely we would read 'hasten' and 'dormant' together (or near each other). From this I feel like you are trying to say the sadness that is deep inside begins to awaken/ stir and hence become more pronounced. Cleverly worded.

As I read the words that
    are your immortality,
    only fragments of a
    friend remain who was
    once so dear.

^^ this has to be my favourite stanza!! Everything about it is perfect and really grips the audience!

    Silence one more greets
me, to take me under it's
    wings for yet another
    cold journey.

^^ sadness is representationally cold. Always recognised as loneliness and silence.. Desolation. And it is indeed a 'journey' that must be travelled in order to be overcome.

    Solitude cannot be kept
    at bay, it confronts and
    surrounds me completely.
    A captive I remain.

^^ warring with your inner demons always makes you feel alone because we tend to feel like we must battle them on our own.

Overall, this is an amazing write! It is filled with so much emotion and detail - I mean yout imagery was spot on! - and it flowed perfectly.
I'd vote for it if I could.. but I am not yet eligible.

So I will give it the 5 stars it truly deserves.

    Inner thoughts collides and shatter
    into kaleidoscopic shards
    that pierce into
    my heart.

^This opening stanza is so vivid that I can actually see the pain of those shards piercing you.

    The sadness hastens, it
    grows and continues
    to lay dormant
    within.

^Its funny how sadness captures our heart and mind and it sits there unmoving. Your description here really sets the scene.

As I read the words that
    are your immortality,
    only fragments of a
    friend remain who was
    once so dear.

^I am sorry to hear this...a heart breaking news..

    Silence one more greets
me, to take me under it's
    wings for yet another
    cold journey.

^I can feel the withdrawal of life, its smile falling into an abyss..its the picture I got when I read this.

    Solitude cannot be kept
    at bay, it confronts and
    surrounds me completely.
    A captive I remain.

^Shutting off from the world and within that wall we hold ourselves a prisoner..for at that time that is the only place comfort can be found...hope you are okay..take care.
