It's a Cold, Grieving New Year

by Maple Tree   Jan 3, 2014

In the depths of winter,
I miss you the most.

It's a soft snowflake
kissing the pain of death,
reminding me that I'm alive
and your spirit is mixed
in the blizzard above.

I've known death before,
dealt with it in a- not so- healthy
fashion,
but losing you when grass
was green, where our toes
could have giggled under
an evening sunset,
makes my icicle heart
crack with freezing tears.

They say it gets better with time,
but it hasn't for me this time around.

I've grown silent about my pain
over months of routine daily living,
but it's getting harder for me to
hibernate
my anguished heart.

I light candles for you
in the dark of night,
hoping to hear your giggling
soul lift me up.. but I can't hear
you...

Very deep and emotional. Raw with sad passion. Beautiful in it's own way though. You probably don't remember me but this was a pleasure to read just as your others before. Hope you're well x

    It's a soft snowflake
    kissing the pain of death,
    reminding me that I'm alive
    and your spirit is mixed
    in the blizzard above.

^^I like the mixture here, a beautiful snowflake which reminds the heart of a pain and the blizzard which brings memories. A nice mixture yet written with a heaviness in the heart.

    but losing you when grass
    was green, where our toes
    could have giggled under
    an evening sunset,
    makes my icicle heart
    crack with freezing tears.

^^This verse stood out for me. The image gives a heart warming picture and at the same time a heart breaking reality..touching.

I've grown silent about my pain
over months of routine daily living,
but it's getting harder for me to
    hibernate
    my anguished heart.

^^Loss of a loved one comes in waves I was told and this verse I find it true. With daily living and its routine pain becomes silent and at the same time harder to deal with.

    I light candles for you
    in the dark of night,
    hoping to hear your giggling
soul lift me up.. but I can't hear
    you...

^^The ending has left a very deep impacting image in my mind..I know the feeling here..a touching write..take care.

That snow flake that landed on the tip of your nose... that song you suddenly needed to hear... that little ray of sun peeping through the snow filled clouds... those are all signs... sit quietly with your eyes closed and listen closely for that quiet little giggle and feel that soft butterfly caress/breath on your cheek... always there...
