For the Angels; Heaven in their Shoes

I reside on the other side of darkness,
where she rests her head amongst dying
orchids in a desert windstorm.

"You might wonder about the absence of light
in my poetry, I'll point to the few
fading buds left and tell you that the sun
no longer rises from my country."

She whispers to me in syllables as
I crack a window from my compassionate
soul, shedding light within my heart to
stop the rainshowers of death.

"Gaze to gaze with you,
I've witnessed the sky devouring blood,
your prayers reach the grieving souls
but fail to shield them with a shell of love."

I reach across sacrificed angels
placing fallen wings in my pocket,
to craft a peace flag of surrender
holding her hand, but only in words-
the sun still refuses to shine.

"Toward you, from helpless hands, we toss
the torch: Oh people from the safer side,
will you pray for heaven to be mine.."

Note: This poem is written with an attempt to reflect two voices, the voice of the people being oppressed by tragedy, war, and injustice horrors nowadays, and the voice of those who live on the other side of the world, who sadly can do nothing more than praying and feeling compassion toward them.

    Judging comment:

    Compassion is what seeps from each line of this poem. The genuine love and friendship within both of your hearts is evident and inspiring. It's very true that we cannot imagine what another person experiences, even if we see it through media or other sources, we are not in the same country, walking on the same land. Both of you write with grace, sincerity, and beauty that we cannot give up on humanity, or what we may not understand or live through. I like how you include nature and paint a realistic atmosphere that helps the reader sense how violent and dark this land has become, no flowers growing or sun willing to shine. The imagery of the angels is almost spiritual, as well as the call for Heaven to be that much closer and real to those who live in darkness and dread. Beautiful piece, ladies! (4)
