The Light of Drunk

I drink you not to get drunk, but to forget;
downing the peppery, red liquid.
The burning of the first sip as it slides down the throat.
It soothes the mind and numbs the pain.
One drop becomes two, then a bottle or four.
Numbness soon sets in as I laugh upon the floor.
I'm getting drunk.

I've drunk you, but I'm not forgetting.
I reach for something a little sweeter.
This should calm these perpetual storm clouds.
The darkness is ever-there, but in you is a beam of light;
one must stumble through the cloudiness to find you.
The surrounds, they blur as your effects take hold;
I'm feeling drunk.

Alas, our long kiss has ended,
yet in the back of my mind, you remain;
your narrow ray of light shines through the dark.
Like the sun rising above the hillside - her beams are blinding, but bearable.
Hope, love or lust? Who knows and who cares, for I do not!

For a second in time, I forget.
I smile, laugh and experience joy.
The hands of time stand still.
At long last, I am happy;
nightmare free.
The dark has gone
and I am drunk.
