The Fear

by Kitty Cat Lady   Feb 8, 2018

The night creeps, creaks and groans
No one else here, home alone
Covers tucked right up to nose
Wondering what is in the shadows

What's that tapping, scratching too?
Hearing menace but have no view
Feeling hair rise upon neck
Turning into a nervous wreck

Courage needed but can't locate
Heavy breathing tempting fate
A sudden bang announces terror
The unlocked door a fatal error

The time has come to face the fear
Say goodbye to all held dear
No survival possible now
This is it, the final bow.

This reminds me of when I was a kid and would lay awake at night, terrified out of my mind, after watching a scary movie with my older brothers (after relentlessly whining to them that I wasn't a scaredy-cat and I wanted to watch it, too!) Little did I know how much I truly did fear and wonder what was lurking in the shadows of the night...

    Excellent write!!
