Farewell

We'll never know and never see
What could become of you and me
For mine is a mind of complex twists
And only in shadows I find my bliss

But you shine pure and you shine bright
You illuminate darkness with your light
And meeting halfway 'tween dusk and dawn
Is a murky place quite grey and forlorn

I cannot drag you down that hole
Won't steal your light and take your  soul
For in time we will surely resent
The creeping unease of discontent

It pains me not to be the one
To be with you and find the sun
But shadows chase and always do
And I just can't do that to you

Far better to just let you fly
Away from me and my dark sky
My heart's bereft to let you go
But please know that I love you so

    Dark skies rain with thunderous force
    it's here where love must dwell, of course.
    A love of light is pure and white,
    but that won't keep you hot at night.
    To scratch that spot one needs a flame,
    a sweating thrashing soul to claim.
