Untuned

by Star   Dec 14, 2018

Her small face rested on my arms,
for I have approached her broken part.

Her wound-up music box
held her crystalized tears,
while the tiny dancer within
bent to both of us,
bedding final goodbyes.

Her thin hand barely held mine,
for I couldn’t heal her wounded heart.

This is so sad but I got the imagery of an inner child reaching for help to the adult they now are - and that in itself is just so powerful as it releases a lot of pain and perhaps regret. You could question which person is most hurt or damaged and which one is more unreachable. Very thought provoking piece which can be taken in many directions!

First of all, welcome to PnQ. Please feel free to join in on any discussions and I hope this site becomes a peaceful community where you can share and read poetry.

This is a simple idea, yet the complexity of brokenness and the aftermaths of a wounded heart... it leads the read to think this is a final scene. A final dance.

Love how you titled this. It made me think of an untuned piano, when I play the right notes but the sound comes out distorted and off. And it doesn't seem as melodic or "whole".

Hope to read more of your work!
