Don’t Fall in Love

If I could
Go back
in time
and tell my
past self
one thing,

It would be
to never
fall
in love,

As difficult
as it sounds
just don’t do it,

Because what comes
with it
will change you
forever,

Sleepless and restless
nights
anger
depression
and self hate,

The inability
to look yourself
in the mirror
because
love has forced
you
to believe we are not
beautiful,

Love
causes sadness
death
and stress so great
you unlearn
how to
trust people,

Wish I was
smart enough not to
fall for
loves tricks,

But the illusion
of a
white fence
a dog and
children
overwhelmed me
and destroyed any
ounce of happiness
I had left,

Through many
follies
of my own
I’ve hurt myself
and haven’t helped
love
along the way,

I just wish
I never fell
so hard,

Now I’m stuck
in a loveless reality
with no way
to get home.
