You Can't Repay That Debt

by CJ Maleney   Jun 6, 2019

The ability to tolerate is lost on me!
It is something I do not know.
If faced with one of life's idiots,
I desire both arrow and bow.

I choose my words carefully now!
Lest the weak willed feel offense!
But they can go sit on a spike,
And not this time upon a fence.

There are thousands upon thousands.
Who died and bled to ensure you wake.
And you repay that cost, memory and sacrifice.
By being self righteous pathetic fakes.

You whine about your rights!
And oh how about the earth you care!
But were any of you there,
When those students stood in that square?

Safe in bed? In your suburban homes.
All secured by mum and dad.
Dreaming of the education
And the inheritance to be had.

Perhaps a holiday or excursion.
Ooh a lovely trip to France!
Do not dwell upon the blood that was spilled,
Absorbed into the sand on which you dance.

The sea may now look gentle.
As it laps against the shore.
Not washing away the blood of men
Who died in thousands by the score.

War is indeed a horrible thought but we have what we have today because these brave people fought for it. I sometimes wonder if people who take our freedom for granted really know what it would feel like to live under a dictator... internet access being one of the things in this modern society that we take for granted one can only imagine what it would be like if it was controlled (just an example that I think most will relate to) although there are plenty of worse atrocities I could mention.

I'm glad to see this nominated and I hope those who read it will stop for a moment to appreciate what we have and why we have it.

Craig, a hard hitting and well written poem. War is awful, but is at times necessary.
You are right, many of us can condemn it, but if it weren't for the sacrifice of men and women, our freedom, our lifestyle would be very different. We should never forget and be grateful that we have good people still willing to do what is necessary.

The sea that washes the shore will never forget the loss of life. Never!

without it? Sadam Hussain would still be in power. Sometimes what was is a necessary evil seens evil.

Just to remove one aspect of another evil.

I know you get this dude.

History is left in the past most of the time. To some point we are all writing history as well, but again writing it carelessly.

There are too many things in life we should be thankful for; we are blessed to have and we don’t realize that.

This is so well said and written!!

All of us are history, today will be tomorrow.

Yet we remain in whatever stance we are. somethings are best forgotten and some should always be remembered.

Too many people live in little bubbles completely oblivious of the sacrifice that has been made through history for them or that many people continue even in today's enlightened times to suffer from one inhumane regime or another. Yet they are quick to raise up their heads every now and again to make unenlightened comments from a position of comfort. A powerful write Milly x

      Thanks Mills.

It is a sad thing that those who now follow my generation and those that have gone before do not realise the sacrifices people have made.

Be the war just or illegal, evil people have been removed. Some still need to be so.

Yet the snowflake leftie society will argue different.

So chuffed I am not the only one who thinks in such a way.
