Sister Cuckoo

by Baffy Midmashie   Nov 29, 2020

I felt the imbalance
I knew from the start
I was smaller than everything then

You couldn’t think about how small you were
You wore a magnificent cloak
You didn’t know it wasn’t yours so you kept it

I thought it was yours
I thought we were different
I was mesmerised by the thought of something so bold

You wore it at all times
You never let it down
You didn’t ever ask anyone to help with the clasp

I followed the sparkles
I noticed them fade
I realised our love was quite real in its pain

You looked to unclasp it
You looked to be brave
You had so many reasons to stage a delay

I should have been mindful
I should have been brave
I should value the reasons I wasn’t able to be

You gave me some sequins
You took some away
You stood in a parapet of fading cloth

I know the cloaks burden
You’ve seen my true size
We still see the warmth in our cold weary eyes

I still love your sparkle
Your cloak in its threads
We are equally bound to our fear and our dread

We still share the secret
We know we’re the same
We know where we tried and why it was in vain

We are where we've come to
We will be where we go
Without us we aren't us, together we glow

One of the best things in this world, to have siblings and have a great bond with them.
    This is very well written!

A warm welcome to the site. This is a really good first write and one that I truly appreciate being as in love with rhyming poetry as I am!

    All the very best,

The love of a sibling is perhaps the one that can give and take the most.
Nice to read a new writer and one who knows the depth of words.
    Welcome.
