Allergic to Love

by Walter   Feb 2, 2021

I met this awesome girl
Who to my eyes she would please
But she had a little problem
That she couldn't stop her sneeze

She seemed fine at a distance
Though as soon as she got near
The problem seemed to worsen
And even turned severe

Just after introductions
Where both our smiles grew
She even offered her hand
But suddenly went 'Ah-choo!'

Embarrassed by the moment
And while trying to explain
'This normally never happens'
But then she sneezed again!

There was nothing I could do
And told her she should rest
We exchanged telephone numbers
And both knew this was best

But later on that evening
From her I got a call
She said she was feeling better
Not once did she sneeze at all

We made plans for the next night
To go out for some dinner
I was so happy once again
And felt just like a winner

We sat down at our table
As the waiter served champagne
But as soon as we both made a toast
It started all again!

She blew out our dinner candle
And even her glass would spill
She raised her hand while sneezing
For the waiter to not refill

Once again we had to leave
And we both just waved good night
As she couldn't stop sneezing
Her head was feeling light

She didn't call that evening
Not even the next day
Now I was feeling miserable
I had to get away

I decided to go shopping
I was dressed so casually
No point trying to impress
As her I wouldn't see

There in the perfume isle
Buying some aftershave
As this morning I had run out
Of this fragrance women crave

And guess who I just saw there
My heart began to beat
The same girl from last night
Now standing near my feet

We both stood still while staring
But this time there was no sneeze
Even as we moved closer
She didn't even wheeze!

Over come with joy
We hugged and danced in arms
And no sign of sneezing
This time to ring alarms

What felt like a long moment
Though we wanted to resume
She had some clothes to try on
In the dressing room

She told me to wait right here
My promise to her I gave
And wanting to feel more confident
I put on some aftershave

Then parading in her black dress
As she came into view
Seductively moving closer
But then she went "Ahhhhh Choooooo"

This is a delightful poem. A bit like a comedy sketch! Nice one.

What an absolute joy. A delightfully funny poem especially welcome in these dark times. Nineteen verses of fun is an incredible achievement. Definitely one for my favourites. Milly x

Thanks so much for reading and your lovely comment Milly. And yes, I agree. It's sometimes hard to stay happy during dark times, but I'm glad there's always P&Q to escape to! x
