Oh Texas! Oh Texas!

by Everlasting   Mar 12, 2021

Oh Texas! Oh Texas! Being reckless, I see
It’s all for a freedom that does not exists
No mask mandate today. I hear, Hooray!
On March the tenth
On March the tenth

People gather around to celebrate!
The state is open 100 percent!

Oh Texas! Oh Texas! The big state!
Can you at least wait?
To get more people to vaccinate?

To tell you the truth, I’m afraid
This is a pandemic
where even children have paid
Do not be a skeptic
For they have died in vain

Oh Texas! Oh Texas! I hear, hooray!
On March the tenth
On March the tenth

It baffles me that people will celebrate this, instead of realizing that by wearing masks, we can actually move forward safely. It doesn't have anything to do with personal freedom when it's a public health crisis.

This week, I chose to leave a job I just started due to not feeling safe. We still have a mask mandate here, but employees weren't wearing masks and we had to work close together. I told them my situation and asked if they could wear it around me, then they said masks were an inconvenience (yet they wore them properly for guests). I brought it up to management, who also didn't wear them properly, and they said they don't really want to wear them, even though it's entirely feasible to perform the job just fine wearing one. It was not worth risking my health and those who depend on me, but I know people have to put up with those risks too.

It's such a small thing to ask, and when it's been scientifically proven to help lower the risk, why would you not keep doing it?

I'd be afraid and livid if I lived there, but just do what you can do, and protect yourself as much as possible <3

I’m wearing double masks at work. I work at a grocery so I come across many customers without a mask. What I have notice though is ever since wearing the mask, I haven’t gotten sick from cold nor flu. Mask work.

Mr Darcy... nice word “impervious” first time I come across it.

I think it's mad that some states/countries/counties are shedding lockdown rules so quickly, but also, it's a good thing that they're reopening and moving forward. Personally, l think getting on with things is extremely important, but as long as we do it cautiously and bit by bit. It's an impossible situation.
Anyway, great poem, and I'm sure it will raise some really interesting points in terms of people's comments.
