Cherry Blossom Serenade (NaPoWriMo day 7)

by Star   Apr 7, 2021

Do you remember?

When we were young we both
used to keep dreaming of the
cherry blossom road;

a road drawn by our imagination.

We felt their beauty,
we even breathed in
their sweet aroma.

You always told me
you believed in them,

but I know now why
I couldn’t.

    This reminded me of the "Rainbow Bridge", visiting our loved pets there once we pass. This poem felt bittersweet, almost mournful, like this person is wanting you to live in the moment, and also shield you in a way. Also, this speaks of a theme of growing up. Of this person you're still fond of, that you still remember, speaking about these cherry blossoms, and wanting to become lost in them. And you maybe couldn't give yourself over to the dreams and fantasies that life would always be like this. Reality made it harder to visit, harder to picture and dream of. Interesting piece, and I liked the hard-hitting ending lines, like you are now detached from it. There's a sadness in that, in separating from youth, and realizing the harsh truths of reality.
