naked

by prasanna   May 11, 2021

my throat pulsates while you nock
your words on your tongue –
this is vulnerability at its peak
and i dread it.

i've poured trust into you,
you know every
square inch of me –

you’ve acquainted yourself
with my thoughts before i
have a chance to mouth it.

and still -

does any part of you wish
to dissipate into the wind?

another napowrimo poem i did not post on here.

    Hello,
The title 'naked' here is quite intriguing as I guess it would peak anyone's interest as you'd feel abit drawn to the feelings of "hey up them what's all this about uh?" though I know with you, you're a delicate sort of writer, you write things so easily relatable and things we've probably all witnessed at some point in our lives or atleast will witness and most of those are just unfortunate. Anyway, I digress but hopefully you get my meaning.

my throat pulsates while you nock
your words on your tongue –
this is vulnerability at its peak
    and i dread it.

The imagery here, as always, is astounding. You always have this way of painting such a vivid image in your work even if in a few short sentences and they always have a huge impact - these for some reason, took my breath away. I'm wondering why you'd dread someone's vulnerability or is it the words they're speaking.. Maybe it's because you've been there yourself and you don't want them to witness that sense of 'failure?' I have to say I looked up the word 'nock' as I thought you'd misspelled knock (haha) I'm glad I did too.. I fits so perfectly there.

    i've poured trust into you,
    you know every
    square inch of me –

This, this got me in the feels because I've been there, done that and have the t-shirt to prove it but it doesn't matter whether you give them your all or all of your trust some people are there to break us not make us and though it hurts like hell, it's a blessing in disguise. I do like how you 'poured' your trust into as though it was a posion of something instead of just giving them your trust.. Very clever, as ever.

    you’ve acquainted yourself
    with my thoughts before i
have a chance to mouth it.

Just wow. That's all I can say here. This person certainly knows every crevice of yours, don't they?

    and still -

does any part of you wish
    to dissipate into the wind?

I love this ending as if to ask "well, you know all have me and you don't want to disappear never to be seen again." Amazing work.

Good question. You have such a flexible mind in poetry.
