it will be our little secret.

by Poet on the Piano   Jan 19, 2026

if only i could sum it up
into a sentence or two,
then when you rarely ask
"hey, how are you?"
i'd have a perfect string
of words,
with syllables that
flow like birds,
but you never see
the shadow i leave,
so i become someone
you never perceive,
and even when i lost my voice,
it was easier to say
"oh, it's just my choice",
but you didn't live with
the fear he spread,
i am still a child
in that canopy bed.

It’s deeply tender, and so recognizably you.
I sense the quiet struggle between fear and the child still sheltering in the canopy, choosing not to grow by burying pain, however devastating it once was.
