Test Or Quest

by Robert   May 26, 2005

On a lonely road I traveled so many times before,
lies a story that told from father to son and once more.
This is of a lady, well kept and dressed in white,
that walks along the side of the road only viewed with headlights.
A woman bound to walk to a destination that is somewhere out there,
but asks in a cool mannered voice if she could ride with you with no fare.
Being of good heart and mind you let her in, so she will not come to harm,
but in the end it is you that walks away looking alarmed.
You talk to her and she is as pleasant as any young woman of need,
but she will tell you a tale in the end, and this you must take heed.
You drop her off thinking what a pleasant thing you have done,
never knowing that even with her in your car there was a being of one.
A spirit she was, that walks the night to hitch a ride to her place of rest,
but to us tell me, was our kindness in the end, a test or her never ending quest?

A very nicely written piece. You portrayed the emotions so well and I like the structure you used. The beginning really drew in my attention. And you ended it so perfectly. Definitely, a well deserved 5/5.
