My Safe Corner

by *Charisma*   Dec 29, 2006

Shriveled in the corner
My secret hiding place
If I can't see this man
He can't see my face

Underneath the blanket
Covering my deepest fears
Muffling broken cries
Echoing through tears

The lights are all turned off
So he is equally blind
Maybe he'll think I'm gone
Give up on the search and find

I hug my teddy tighter
To feel like someone cares
He listens as I tell
All the secrets that I share

Mommy doesn't know
Because she's long gone
And daddy can't take that
She up and moved on

He tells me it's my fault
That I was a bad little girl
These marks are to remind me
I ruined daddy's world

Someone should know
But nobody will hear
They cover over truth
To escape their own fears

So I'm still in this corner
Waiting for him to sleep
Then I'll crawl into bed
In a sorrowful heap

I think it's 'upped and moved on' or something like that, but i could be wrong =)

Excellent poem Charisma! You painted such a sad picture with your words. It heart breaking to think that so many families end up like this.
    Well done on this..

How sad and depressing. Good job on this one!

    I ruined daddy's world

This part especially got to me. How many times are the poor children made to feel the blame of the breakup? Very sad and powerful. 5/5
