Water Fright

by Jackie   May 8, 2007

Briney spray stinging her face
Jagged rocks slowing her pace
Mercilessly the wind yanks her hair
But on she stumbles without a care

To the waters edge she goes
Icy water grasping at her toes
The man in the surf beckons her to come
Enticing her in to his watery home

He calls her name and starts to wave
Drawing her forward to her deep blue grave
She's under his power and can't break free
Wading deeper and deeper into the icy sea

Seaweed fingers at her legs claw
Pulling her down, more and more
Arms flailing, she starts to scream
Wakening her from the terrible dream
