Memories from a distant planet: the perspective of aliens

by Mortal Utopia   Jul 30, 2018

I wonder if you still remember
the way those faraway Humans can smile,
showing their teeth like a distant star:

folding and unfolding
those strange, awkward contours
so beautifully stretched and distorted.

I used to wonder what it’d be like
if you ever smiled (perhaps to shine
like the suns we see) with your warmth
radiating like secrets (secrets I can
never share).

You know,
I’m so sorry (I really am),
for how can someone like me

ever make you smile?
