The Lady By The Lake

by CJ Maleney   Feb 20, 2019

When I was somewhat lost and confused,
I travelled, trying to find my feet.
Not knowing where I was going,
Not knowing who I'd meet.

After a time I came upon her,
The lady by the lake.
She smiled so sweetly at me,
But it seemed out of place and fake.

I said "my dear why sit you here"
"Within the damp and in the mist"
She said "I'm waiting for my lover"
"For I need to taste your kiss"

Her words flowed forth on harp strings,
Oh how I remember every word.
Her lips never broke that smile but once,
Yet I swear her voice was heard.

Her blue eyes spoke deeply to my mind,
They said "in me please take a swim"
I nearly waded in mindlessly,
But I saw something else within.

Realisation hit me hard,
It was like crashing into a wall.
This was no angelic symphony,
But a land bound sirens call

As I backed away she spoke again,
There was not threat nor any terror
She said "I will see you again my love"
"This parting is not forever"

One wonders how many have fallen
How many have sunk to the abyss
Lured in and lost forever

By that sweet,

Beautiful,

Final

kiss

A kiss so alluring, but at a most costly price. A superb write. I'm out of nominations, so I hope someone will pick this beauty up.
