The Ruler

by CJ Maleney   Aug 29, 2017

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. It's a fact and one that cannot be ignored.

You can try to dodge round, but you will simply make your path longer and harder.

Keep your line.

The parchment upon which you stare is
getting thinner and thinner as you try to erase your mistakes.
Blurred lines and thoughts now incoherent.

The parchment of your very life will wear so thin, holes will form.
Everything you planned falls through those very same holes,
Cascading into the darkness of forgotten dreams and desires.

Keep your line.

Others will appear upon your chart,
"Here there be dragons"
Words upon ancient charts to cause fear.
Dragons are the invention of Man.

It should read
"here there be man"

For they can be the worst monsters of them all.

However
keep your line.

It is not always easy to follow a path.
It is harder still to try to plan it.
You cannot draw it free hand,

Sometimes you can only rely on a straight edge.

Craig I have to agree with this - life may not seem like a 'straight' line but in hindsight it is because we are all born in one of two ways and all end up going to the same place whether it be by our own hands, hands of others or just purely because it's our time. I like the concept of this piece and how you laid it out for us wonderful (I exclude myself, not that big headed) people to read. Life's what you make it so I'm told. Loved the title too as it made me think you were going to go on about kings and queens but of course you didn't lol.

No way is the easy way for the easy one may take you on an
unwanted path. Keep to your line and you will be fine, deal with
the hic cups that comes along but don't stray. I found many interesting
images coming to my mind as I read this.

Amen Brother Craig, Amen! No truer words spoken. We all need some path to follow. Your own path of course, if We just followed another's we'd just be a bunch of lemmings falling off a cliff

Wow, Craig. This is awesome. A great message I got from this. Raw, inspiring, truthful.

Some would say life is not a straight line. They could be right! Is it wrong to try to stick to a line though? I don't think so. Without a path, a desire, a need or a destination then we are truly lost.

      Regards

      Craig
