impact (early years poem)

An every day journey
With nothing special planned
The only way things differ
Is it's a different land

We travelled uneventfully
Just taking in the sights
Who would have guessed what was to come
On a bend off to the right

The wagon was the first thing seen
The car was by its side
I started stamping on the brakes
But still we did collide

The impact then the rising
Upon my drivers side
I never have in many years
Feared so for my life

I was the first to reach the car
Of alcohol it stunk
This never would have happened
If the driver wasn't drunk
