You Want It Darker

by CJ Maleney   Oct 30, 2017

As I walk into the darkness
I feel my soul part in the gloom,
But I still want it darker
Theres still a light that's getting through.

No joyous thoughts come forward,
It's anger and bile that's in my veins.
Unable to commit brutality,
Words of violence wound and maim.

I know that I am ready,
know I will pay the cost.
It will be my pleasure in this darkness,
And I will break that faith filled cross.

Bring your candle to the horror,
Let it show what I have done
Let it try to guide your way out,
It will not take you to the sun.

Remember why you come here,
Did you see something in my name?
You want to find the darkness?

We kill the flame.

There is a hero to every tale
And this tale is just the same.
There is only so much you can see
Before the extinguishing of flame.

Bravery and purity,
Every life sent to the dark.
Every wound inflected,
Consequences kill the spark.

She succumbed to the darkness,
Burned at the post, known by another name
Still you want it darker?

We kill the flame.

You gave yourselves unto this
For you felt it was for you.
Forget where you began,
What is left It is not true.

All the things you abhorred
You now try to peruse.
You're twisting in your conscious
Your barriers are broken through.

Instigator or the pawn
The extremes now just seem tame.
You want it darker?

We kill the flame.

Can you feel the coldness
As it seeps into your bones?
Can you feel the fear building,
When you can't see and you don't know?

You find yourself in this place
Welcome yourself into this game.
You are the only player
It's your pleasure and your pain.

Magnified, sanctified
Be thy holy name
Vilified, crucified
In the human frame.

For everything you have lost
There will be someone to blame
You want it darker?

We kill the flame.

Close your eyes unto the torture,
But it just gets darker still.
You can turn your back upon it
The blood flows crimson down that hill.

The seeds of terror sown,
They can never grow a tree.
Misery, desolation and despair
Growing for centuries.

Now part of the shamed ones
And you know what you can do.
You ask God for forgiveness,
There is no answer coming through.

Try to find some form of sanctuary,
Find some glory to burn thy shame.
But still you want it darker

We kill the flame

I don't know how the heck I missed this?! It was so good it made me Google who the man was. Amazing tribute. Better than amazing, but literally can't think of a word right now. And the bass in that song... I love it.

My...I'm just learning about all this now! I like the
repetition "We Kill the flame" , it gives an added effect
and I must say this is the longest poem I've read with full
    details and spot on rhymes!
