Nine Till Five

by Milly Hayward   Jun 5, 2019

I type all day, and answer phones.
Just one of many, standard clones.
Life's so dull, I could almost weep.
Try my best, not to fall asleep.

Back upstairs, I'm shuffling papers.
Dreaming of, some office capers.
No one notices, little me.
Unless they need, a cup of tea.

Around me robots, without minds.
Blinkered workers, their lives defined.
Is this what fate now holds for me?
Or is there some way, to be free?

I Look around, the coast is clear.
My heart is racing, full of fear.
Sneak out carefully, on the floor.
Then run to freedom, out the door.

Now there will be, no going back.
For surely I, will get the sack.
Here right now, my destiny spins.
Fortunes changed, my new life begins.

Much to my husband's frustration, I have turned my back on corporate career and am carving out my destiny in other ways. Not nearly as lucrative, but my soul is so much happier! I can so relate to this beautiful poem.

Tanya, well done for your well timed escape and I wish you every success in your endeavours. Life is too short to be a replaceable cog. Peace with yourself and the freedom to make your own choices are gifts beyond price. Milly x

Milly, I think we have all dreamed of running out the door and not looking back. Being a worker drone myself it can grind on you. Well done-

Nicely done Miss Milly and the humour behind it ;)

I always thought... would people be happier doing 4 days with extra 2 hours and extending the weekend to blot out 'moody Monday'? M :)x

Glad you liked it Michael. Yes it would be great if everyone got the chance to work a four day week and have a glorious long week end :) Milly x
