napowrimo 6 - Write a Poem

by Sunshine   Apr 8, 2020

Having no else present,
but that which makes all else visible
which at times I heard they call it light.
I wander like an arrogant old man
ruling over my bare palace.
My heart is broken
but dignity sparkles in my teeth.
The sun will chase other fields
and night will eventually arrive,
while weather sometimes changes
I do not notice all the time.
Alone, but I never cry.
I write a poem.
I survive.

See? This is what I mean by most of your poems are sad even if your voice is strong and confident. I really like this. I like the "bare palace" that (I thought) means a happy life even if you're alone in it and there's nobody else.
I also like the way you use your writing as a haven. You have an amazing talent. Love you.

YESS, especially to those last two lines. Like an anthem. A declaration you are here and present.

Also, loved and was not expecting the "dignity sparkles in my teeth" - what a unique line! There seemed to be some subtle rhyming (or close rhymes, or just a certain cadence) in the second half of of the poem that felt so natural and surprised me too.

There's that kind of understanding that we will continue to wander, experience more heartbreak and pain, witness the night again and again and our own darkness, yet we will still rise, like the sun, and make our own light.
