Upside Down

by cassie hughes   Feb 27, 2021

The world looks so much better
When I’m hanging upside down
The people all stand on their heads
And smile instead of frown

The birds swim in the grass so blue
Dogs backstroke through green sky
And trees reach down with branches
That have sprung from trunks up high

The daisies and the buttercups
All smile and dance above
And under all the sun beams up
To fill the world with love.

I was challenged to write a poem containing the words 'Upside down' and this little thing just popped into my head. Imagine a small child hanging from some monkey bars in the park.
Sometime I think a little silliness is good for us!

What a lovely idea. I loved the images that this quirky poem conjured up. Particularly frowns turned upside down becoming smiles and the imagery of birds swimming in blue grass. Milly x

Hello, the title was interesting because it made me wonder what was "upside down" and it made me think of my mum once telling me sarcastically that Australia was an upside down great Britain and I naively believed her, I was 6 at the time lol

I love the imagery here. It makes me think of being little on the monkey bars and watching my mum smiling at me proudly but it looked as though she was sad because I was upside down ofcourse, so I once asked her why she was sad and she had to explain that she wasn't. It really is weird how a little mind works isn't it and what we actually remember too.

The imagery in the 'upside down' poem is wonderful and makes you wonder just how weirdly wonderful the world would be if we were all walking in the sky and not on the ground.. Would the world be better or would it be much worse? A quirky yet extremely thought provoking piece.

I hope you and your family are staying safe,
    Take care,
    Em x
