Glory Days

by Cindy   Mar 31, 2007

Young boys respond to
their natural summers call.
Head to the fields
with their bats and balls.

Long hot summer days
spent playing in grass and dirt.
Playing for pride of the game
trying to prove their worth.

Idolizing Pros with cheering crowds
life's problems momentarily forgot.
Managers and players stratagize
discuss the games plot.

Colorful souvenirs and pennants
eager children stop to stare.
Tasty confections and wonderful smells
float through the air.

Meir men become legends
by giving it their all.
Long before baseballs
greedy self-induced fall.

Kids waiting by the gate
till long after dark.
Chance at a prized autograph
as players leave the park.

Hammering Hank, Mr October,
and the selfless Iron Horse
Integrity immortalized forever
by our countries sport.

Great traditions obscured
by the passing of time.
Purity of our past years
robbed the greatest of crimes.

Personally, i don't watch baseball, it might have something to do with the fact, i'm in England and we're fixated on Football.. lol
But all the same, such a cute poem.
And, it still had the deeper meaning within the words while keeping an upbeat tone

Sums up the whole piece nicely......very well written. Good imagery, flow and rhyming.

This was great and as a matter of fact, I was out watching the boys play baseball today.
