The Dance

I think this is our last dance
I hope it is magical
I want it to never end
But things don't last forever
So I will take as much as I can
Before we go our separate ways
And never speak again

I want you to hold me tight
And never let me go
Play with my hair
And brush against my cheek
I want you to look in my eyes
To say everything will be alright
As I sit there and wipe away the tears
I hold your hand tighter
As to never let you go

I sit there in that chair next to your bed
We dance to the soft hospital music
But then there is a new tune to dance to
The song of death and your funeral song
So I march to a different tune
I stare at your cold body in that coffin
With that old smile on your face
I kiss you for the last time
And walk on with my life

I am still living and happily yet
I miss them terribly
With many reminders along the way
But no matter what life brings
I will always and forever
Remember our Dance
And I hope it won't be our last
