Yogi

by Brenda   Mar 10, 2019

Oh you were big!
A head the size of a mack truck...
But oh so gentle!
A gentle giant,
that was you...
-
That freckled nose and brown ears
gave you a sweet look.
Your snaggle tooth
gave you the nickname "Yogi-Rex"...
-
There wasn't a soccer ball
that survived play time with you!
Come to think of it
there weren't many toys
that survived play time with you...
We think your favorite game was
"laying in the middle"....
The middle of the floor
the stairs
anywhere we needed to go back and forth on,
you were there,
chilling, not a care in the world...
-
Your snoring was legendary!
Never knew a dog
could snore like that...
The house is too quiet
now that you are gone.
I'd take all your snuffling, farting, snoring self
any day
over this hole in my heart
I have now...
-
They say all dogs go to heaven
and I believe that...
Big grassy fields
full of soccer balls
comfy couches to sprawl out on...
All the good things you deserve Yogurt.
-
So thank you old friend!
Thank you for being our protector,
our companion.
Thank you for allowing us
to be part of your pack...
RIP Yogi 15 Jan 19

THis was written for my daughter and her family when their American Bulldog Yogi passed away suddenly. He was 11 years old and such a sweetheart. A gentle giant....

Dogs become a part of the family and one of us and when
they are gone there is a missing piece like in a jigsaw puzzle
    which leaves us incomplete...beautifully sad..

Your words are so gentle and sweet. I can relate to the passing of a beloved pet. The way it hurt so much when it happened and everytime you remember them, tears just overflow. Such a beautiful piece.

Zia, thank you so much. I've lost my share of fur babies too. It never gets easy.

This touched me genuinely, Brenda. I have lost a dog and have a huge one now who is more than just a pet to me. You have to have them to know, as they say.

I am sorry to read this, despite it being such a lovely tribute.

Thank you so much Ben! I too have lost my share of family pets. They are indeed more than just a pet, they are a member of your family. Yogi would probably be considered small next to your sweet Willow. He was quite a lovey, thought he was a lap dog lol. So awesome with the kids. Hes been the only dog we puppy sat for, so he was another grandbaby to us. Give Willow a big hug from me!
