Window to the soul

by Courtney Hough   May 2, 2018

“Hold out your hands.”
A calming voice spoke.
“Put them in your face,
Get ready to take note.”

The world was different now,
“How can this be?”
“You’re enlightened now,
You can actually see.”

The holy one and I walked,
Amongst death and hell.
As eyeless faces,
Still cannot tell.

“You saw the ways of man,
Before you even had your eyes,
But you knew this was wrong,
They’re content with lies.”

I see my family,
They’re eyeless too.
Living better lives from most,
But still; don’t have a clue

“This wasn’t my vision,
I had wonderful plans.
But greed came in, love went out.
And you all live in this wasteland.”

Mindless bodies,
Partying, killing, not having a care.
Sightless and heartless,
Is polluting our air.

And there we stood watching,
With tears from our opened eyes.
Being voices of reason,
While you all laugh; our world dies.

There's much to write about eyes. They are gifts, aren't they?
I realise that this isn't a literal poem, more an awareness of others shortfalls. Why can't others see all the wrong around. If we all did a little, this world would be a happier and healthy place.

    Take care.
