You Give Me Butterflies

by Paul Hirst   Jul 18, 2018

I stifle my scream
Turn pain to Peaches and Cream
A punch to the face becomes soft fabrics and lace
A casual slap to the head my warm comfy bed a slash from the stick tangy sherbet dip
Soft Summer wind in the trees instead of bruised bleeding knees
Hate filled spit in my eyes soothing lullabies
A kick to my head beautiful starburst in red
I stifle my cries turn bruises to butterflies

Just that power in the last line. IF a break had been placed after 'cries' this would have been a 10. I just think the punch would be missed without. Such a colorful write, dressing up such disturbing undertones with delightful imagery is very clever. Great job PH (7 points)

A dramatic, dark picture of violence. Creatively written raises vivid imagery. Definitely worthy of its nomination. Best wishes Milly x
