A Hogwarts Dream

by Milly Hayward   Jul 23, 2019

There is a magic place where you can learn
where teachers can be fair but often stern
Closed to Muggles and to non magic Squibs
most people are signed from their baby crib

If I could get a pass for Hogwarts school
where I could have some fun and play the fool
I'd ask the sorting hat for Gryffindor
where magic skills are always set to soar

Talk to Hagrid about those Potter days
and how life's changed now in so many ways
Seek out those creatures people never see
Some kept for lessons in herbology

Heed voices from the paintings on the stair
play Weasley tricks we purchased fair and square
Go shopping in Hogmead for butter beer
and if we're lucky see the village seer

At breakfast start each day with happy cheer
listen to magic talk that I can hear
Owls deliver mail as they descend
Watch friendships grow and spot the magic trends

Id soar up to the sky on my new broom
with Hippogriffs and dragons I would zoom
avoid the bludger - chase instead the snitch
I would begin at last to be a witch

I'd practice waving round my magic wand
learn all about that world so far beyond
Cast spells and eat all flavoured jelly beans
where everyone just has that magic gene

If I could have a wish this would be mine
just get me to that place that's half plus nine

For all the Potter Fans who wish you'd gone to Hogwarts :)

Thanks Lainie...Glad you liked it. I loved all the movies. It would be great so see more Hogwarts adventures in the future. I think there is a lot of scope for new adventures in any or all of the other house's - set at any time in history even going back to the times when it was first built but I doubt J.K. Rowling will want to go back to write anything more about it now :( Milly x

Hehe I’m not a fan of the Harry Potter stories (books nor films), but I enjoyed reading this piece. It flowed really good. It made want to go to Hogwarts. It sounds like fun.

ME! ME! I wish I had! My wife and kids got me addicted to those books (so much better than the films, in my humble opinion) and now I have dreams about being a pupil there, lol
Milly, you have encapsulated perfectly all that's warm, colourful and addictive about those marvellous stories with this piece. A truly lovely poem.

All the very best as ever,

Thank you Ben :) I've read the books, watched the movies and listened to the audio books and for me they all bring something different. I listen to Stephen Fry reading the books as a cure for insomnia - literally plug in the ear plugs start the book playing and its so soothing it sends me off to sleep :)

Thank you Mark :) I heard on one of the Fantastic Beast interviews one of the younger actors comment that it's really much harder for the younger generations who are brought up on Harry Potter because they are really disappointed when they don't get to go to Hogwarts. I think deep down all Harry Potter fans no matter what their age would have loved to have had the chance to have attended Hogwarts :) Milly x
