Safest Landing

by Gracy Judith   Jun 23, 2020

long rain cascades
morphs into a lyrical chant
as though reciting something
from the heavens
in ancient codes.
the wind swirls
spells out a rune
blows in all directions within the mind.
my thoughts settle into dusk
I walk into auburn stillness
carrying a rainstorm inside my pen…
I know, the page is a fragile thing to fall on
but for words,
it's the safest landing

I like the ease of how this poem reads without a particular need for lots of punctuation or line breaks. I can still understand each and every line and it works, it provides a sort of repose. I love the atmosphere you create, and the mention of ancient codes and human emotions and chants, and I see this as a "bigger than us" kind of poem. We try to seek out the exact meaning of something, but sometimes, we can just find peace and belonging in writing out our emotions. Even if they remain a puzzle, there's some sort of release. There's such a the beauty in thinking of rain as a lyrical chant, bringing us clarity and empowering us with wisdom we may not even realize yet.

    What an ethereal piece!
