All I Have

by nouriguess   Aug 6, 2020

I know that now
I should pretend to search for
you, as you hide
in the laundry basket,
burrowing your face into
my pajamas.

"Where is Baxter?
Where did Baxter go?
I can't find Baxter."

You waggle your tail,
and run to me,
as I hold you tight and
hurt a bit for real.

Those words frighten me,
even in a game.

Reading this just gave me that sinking feeling in my stomach. I lost one of my dogs years ago. I was still looking for her years later and now all I hope is that whoever has/had her loved her and took care of her and kept her happy. This is such a relatable piece. <3

Oof, I get this. So much. Just the thought of it, and immediately that heaviness descends. Even imagining them being gone is enough to incite a panic attack.

Lots of love and kisses to your Baxter <3 (and my Baxter says hello too!)

Its amazing how protective we become with our furry friends from the moment they enter our lives. Milly x
