whiteout.

by Poet on the Piano   Feb 5, 2021

it's always about you.

i know you don't always mean
for it to be, it just is.

let me be angry if i want to.

let all the petty parts of me
turn to black ice and sit,
waiting to ambush the
unsuspecting victims.

don't act concerned as i
strategize the storm.

if i spin out

if the flurries swallow me

if my vision betrays me

will it even matter?

because, when the roads
are clear and tomorrow's
a perfectly articulate plan

you'll let me leave
without a second glance

and you'll miss the most
catastrophic parts of me.

There's a lot I want to say, and a lot I recognize in this poem, but will just say this: you really should consider publishing your work.

    Hi MA.
I love the analogies running through this and their relationship to the title. I recognised parts of this, the pettiness that consumes you but is hard to let go of, as it sometimes feels like the only control you have within the relationship. There's also an element of the co-dependency, knowing the drama of the behaviour is part of what keeps you together. I'm probably way off but it's how your piece has made me feel and I think you've written it beautifully :-) x
