asylum.

by Poet on the Piano   Oct 28, 2021

are you living in this castle?
i have glimpsed you from afar
twice now, when the haze of
rain stripped my bones of any
courage;

a wanderer among the barred
windows, a shadow projected
on the balcony of freedom
you once romanced.

sepia tones surround my vision,
chestnut imprints of winter, faded -
subdued by nihilistic winds,
reminding me of how aimless
my path toward you is.

i cannot reach you past the murky
waters; you mirror the fortress
itself, unflinching borders and
dying blossoms amidst cold soil.

nothing can bring me back to you,

and i doubt you would call me
home, anymore.
