Is Daddy Coming Home?

by A l y s s a   Oct 23, 2007

Mummy, please tell me what is wrong?
Why do you cry everytime you hear that song?
Please dry your eyes and hold me tight.
Tell me, is Daddy coming home tonight?

Please, I beg you not to cry
I promise to behave all the while.
I swear I never meant to be bad.
Mummy, tell me what it is that makes you sad.

Can't we just call Daddy and tell him to come home?
Is he out there lost, all alone?
Mummy, why won't you talk to me?
I promise I'm trying, why can't you see?

I just miss my Daddy and I want him here.
We'd be happy again right, Mummy dear?
Mummy, why won't you look at me?
All you do is cry cos I look like Daddy.

I don't understand Mummy, don't you want me anymore?
Your tears haven't stopped since Daddy walked out the door.
I miss my Daddy and I miss having a Mother.
Was I that bad that you've replaced me with another?

Did Daddy leave because of me?
Is he off searching to find the daughter I could never be?
I'm really sorry that I let you down
I guess I'll leave without another sound.

I want to say that I love you Mummy.
And that I miss you Daddy.
I hope you're happy and nothing else goes wrong.
But maybe you'll be better now that I'm gone...

I love how you used the words "mummy" and "daddy", it really placed emphasis on the love expressed through the poem, making the turnout of it all the more effective, in a bitter sense.
    Well written, keep it up!

  • And yet, another poem of yours that left me breathless. The feeling in this was so powerful. It's very well-written. Great job!
