Winter's Song (Tanka)

by Cindy   Mar 1, 2011

Shimmering snowfall
Crystal pristine waters flow
Icicle prisms
Drip a frozen melody
Frigid winds softly whisper

Written for a club challenge

The Tanka is a Japanese verse that their teachers taught the students so the students could get a grasp at poetry. The Tanka is a unrhymed verse consisting of five lines with a beat of 5/7/5/7/7.

Cindy, your poem was fabulous in the contest and I was really taken away with it. Your images that you made me think of were beautiful and this poem was a close tie to second just to let you know! :] The flow of the poem was incredible and you seemed to know which words would be most effective in such a small piece! :]

All in all, I was impressed with your poem from start to finish and I am really glad that you gave my competition a try! Hope to see some more tankas by you in the future! Great job and keep writing.
