The Lost Art of Wasting Time (Sonnet)

I blinked for just a moment and lost track
As thoughts meandered down forgotten paths
Those days of fun and sun upon our backs
The endless hours of loving and of laughs

When did we lose the liberated flow
Of life well lived just one day at a time
We never thought that this is how we'd grow
When every second 'wasted' is a crime

I long for days when time stretched far ahead
When every moment wasn't planned and spent
When waking up was never filled with dread
And time was not the cause of discontent

Our time is brief and passes so quickly
Be sure to spend a part of it carefree

    A nostalgic piece that I feel does not simply reflect upon the past.

    Wouldn't it be amazing if we could wind back the clock awe do all the things we should have and said all the things we wish we had.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

    The final two lines encapsulate everything for me and they were the deciding factor in casting my vote above others in contention.

    What a wonderful piece of advice.
