Good-bye Fall

by Brenda   Nov 26, 2019

Winter came early
to the low country-
a dumping of snow
frigid temps
signaled the old man
had came to stay-
-
Earth Mother
saddened and shocked
by this blatant
disregard for her beautiful wares,
donned her widow weeds
and retreated
deep into the forest
to mourn her loss-
-
The juxtaposition of trees
still fully covered
in leaves,
completely coated in snow
created a confusing landscape-
almost like earth had
tipped on its axis-
-
The old man
satisfied with the chaos
exited stage left-
he'll be back though,
his reign has just begun-
-
I mourn the trees too-
Sadly they display
the last vestige of fall-
frozen, no longer brilliant,
clinging to dank branches
almost unsure
if they should fall
or not...

    Hello Brenda,
Wonderful observations of autumn and composed with poetic flair and a keen sense of expression, as in, ‘donned her widow weeds’, picture-perfect. All in all, a marvellous poem.
    Regards, Tony.
