The Infinite Poetry of You (Collab with Rania)

by prasanna   May 2, 2020

Honeyed words pour out in a continuous
stream onto your collar bones, the horizon
that I've always regarded as home in this
nomadic life. Your chest rises gently,
inviting a moment of peace before
collapsing on itself, angrily washing
away the peace like the churning sea.
For better or worse, you are
where my verses become poetry.

There is more liberty and air
behind the bars of your ribcage
than there is in this world outside,
you are the freedom and fusion that I inhale
as you breathe out bonds of rage and love.
It's on this wave of stillness and temper
that I sail, it's on your earthly touch that I survive.
An authentic draft of a miracle, you are
where all my dreams become reality.

Your name; an anodyne pill on this tongue
lets loose a paper lantern into the night sky
that threatens to slip gravity. Sometimes,
I think spacetime was bent purposefully
nudging us together. Other times, I see you
perpetually in the intimacy of evening light.
You – the ethereal being that sifts
warmth into memories.

And I, I'm in constant orbit around you,
I spin slowly at times, and eagerly at the other
it's from your glow that my eyes feed
and from your aura that my soul thaws up.
I am cold without you, I sink in the dark,
lost in this fixed system of stars and dust.
You - an incandescent being emitting beams
more than the sun.

In the infinite onyx vacuum that stirs black-holes
into action and among the stars born dying;
your eyes leak molten amber onto the nostalgic
canvass, wrapping me in a dream-hour of poetry,
where memories blossom like cherry-trees
before dissipating into flashes of light when
September comes calling them by name.

Know this –

you are the beacon of light,
the never-ending poem that hums in my heart.

I was truly at a loss for words for like 15 minutes after reading :)

Everything about this collab just felt right. I really couldn't think of suggestions or any edits that would make the poem stronger. Everything fit, the flow and reassurance in the closing lines... I loved how you tied in the "for better or worse" and how "consistent" this poem was, where one stanza didn't shine or outdo the other, they worked at the same level. This collab doesn't even feel like a collab because of how seamlessly the two of you intertwined your verses. It felt dreamy, like a universe or perhaps planet being discovered due to this person's existence and them entering your life in such a profound way, giving light and love so purely . The imagery and references to black holes, orbits, etc were on point without flooding the poem with too many examples/visuals.

    Favorite lines:

"There is more liberty and air
behind the bars of your ribcage
than there is in this world outside,"

^ Such freedom in these lines. The depth in discovering this person and them being almost a life source, granting you the ability to breathe in, and not inhale the toxins of the world.

and "And I, I'm in constant orbit around you,"
^ Such a simple line, only in the way it's constructed, but genius nonetheless. The pause after "And I" poured forth such tenderness.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! SO happy you decided to share with us this treasure!
