They Killed The Florist

by Linda   Mar 10, 2021

Rest in peace,
your blood on the street.

We weren’t there for you.

The sword you live by
has taken your chances away.

If you didn’t know it was inevitable,
why did you talk to all of us about your funeral?

You knew.

Why couldn’t you just say no
to the demons who killed you for your flowers

and the paper in your pocket?

All so fragile, so disposable,
in exchange for such permanence.

We will never be the same, G.

A poem in honor of my very close friend. He was killed 3/5 over cannabis and money. Rest in peace, Gaven. You are loved, buddy.

There are few words to say other than I'm thinking of you... may your friend rest in peace, and be alive in memory.
