Lies

by schmetterling   Oct 11, 2023

What do you do
when you can no longer
trust someone
who is supposed to be
your best friend?
When you find out
the terrible things they've done
to a person
they're supposed to marry?
When you see
the lies they're accumulating
and the fact
that they still deny
what's happening?
You feel anger
and resentment
because you thought you knew
who they were.
You realize
how little regard
they have for others,
and it kills you inside
to think you've grown up
with this person.
You've stood up for them
when everyone said not to,
you've been there for them
when they weren't there for you,
you've always believed in the goodness
you thought they could be
and they withheld information from you.
You look at them
and you realize
they are no longer your friend.
They are deceiving
the person they're supposed to love.
You can't sit silently
because it's against everything you
believe in.
After twelve years
of a friendship,
you're through making excuses
for a person
who doesn't deserve them.

Emotions in this poem are real and raw. Being betrayed by the person you trust the most is a really horrible thing. Take care always.
