Being A Poet

Place the underrated pen to your vocal cords,
Sing through the pen, these are a poets words.
We speak with our hearts instead of our voice,
We leave it to the pen to show you our choice.

Frustration stings the paper like a rekindled fire,
Just like our need to write is a fire of desire.
And the writing grows messy, anger ripples through,
But the pen keeps writing with out our consent or cue.

With our pen our words are heard; it is our voice;
Being a poet means speaking with a pen and no choice.
Without it, our emotions are lost and we are provoked;
If we choose to speak with our mouths we tend to choke.

Place unknown words onto the paper and rejoice,
Your feelings come unmasked and you have found your voice.
Being a poet means speaking with your heart and not your words,
So brace yourself and press the pen to your vocal cords.

Swimming through all these thoughts, you must choose one,
To create a poem with all new ideas that will stun.
The reader will feel your every wound, as if their own,
They'll feel the night you wrote this when you were sitting alone.

And a poets words will speak to everyones heart so they can relate,
The person will open his mind and read your words and recover your fate.
Being a poet means not using words, but opening your heart
To strangers you barely know that may judge you from the start.
