Simple White Dress

I don't even try,
To hide all my tears,
As I force my feet forward,
Engulfed in my fears.

You're so still in my arms,
Lips and eyes shut tight.
I quickly look away-
This just isn't right.

How do I look,
Into your mothers hopeful eyes,
And tell her the truth,
Through unforgettable cries?

How do I lay you,
In her open hands?
Without a single word,
Advice, or plans?

She's waited for you,
For such a long while,
To sing and laugh,
And watch you smile.

Picking colors for your room,
And a name for the big day-
Everything she's ever dreamed of,
Is viciously torn away.

I can hear her heart,
Breaking in two.
How will she ever move on,
Knowing she's lost you?

I don't know how to comfort,
Her trembling shoulders.
As she moans and cries-
I can barely hold her.

So I nestle you close,
To her heaving chest.
A sob in my throat,
I try to suppress.

She lovingly counts,
Your fingers and toes,
And presses soft kisses,
To your lips and nose.

Your name she whispers,
So softly and sweet,
Her nose nuzzling your cheek,
Your hands, your feet.

Her shaking voice sings,
A haunting lullaby,
And with a mighty sob,
She kisses you good-bye.

Her baby girl,
Held in her warm caress-
A sweet little angel,
In a simple white dress.

    My sweet Cowgirl...this is another heart-touching write from you! I agree with the others here, you really can capture us from the first line and grip us until the end. And it's always a wonder how you weave the story thru very well managed rhymes...which just flows naturally. And behind every poem that is related to what you do we could feel your sincere compassion and loving heart. It is in this instances that I love you even more!

    This hurts...its the most painful moment for a mother
    to go through and to sit and see this will break even the hardest
    heart..to have waited for a child all this while just to be taken
    away in one go...heart breaking...

      It truly is one of the most heart breaking moments ever...there's a lot that hurts in life...but some things are almost impossible to completely heal from. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment!

    Hello again!
    I am literally drawn to your poems, and this one really had me all the way with goosebums.
    So heart breaking and sad to have witness the loss of a close one, especially one's own child.
    Your words captured all the sadness. And the mention of the white little dress made it so more beautifully sad.

    Ren,

    Your poems often tell of hard-hitting, life scenarios that I simply couldn't imagine experiencing; this is another. It's brutal, raw, emotional and very hard to read. However, it's well written and fluently rhymed and wraps the reader up in a dark sort of cloud that can't be broken through until the last line.
